77' ELCO Interior Photos

EARLY WAR ELCO PT BOATS - PAGE 1
The Elco 77-footer has always been my favorite PT design; something about its look just suggests the word "elegant". Being an RC scale modeler, a decent-sized model of the Elco-77 has been on my long-time 'wants' list for years...but since model companies were still in love with the 80-foot Elco, I finally wound up scratchbuilding one in the early 1990's.  I found these photos in November 2003 during one of my periodic jaunts to the National Archives. They were taken in April 1945 aboard PT's 47 and 59, and are excellent views for anyone interested in what the interior of one of these boats looked like. At the time, the two boats were being subjected to dehydration and preservation tests at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
